The most common question we get on the phone isn't about price — it's "what size do I actually need?" Here's the honest, short version, followed by the detail if you want it.

The two things that actually decide size

Almost everyone starts by estimating volume — how much stuff is there. That matters, but weight decides just as often whether a container is the right fit. Furniture, boxes and general household junk are bulky but light — you'll run out of room before you run out of tons. Concrete, brick, tile and wet fill dirt are the opposite: a 10 yard packed with broken concrete is heavier than a 30 yard of couches.

Access matters as much as capacity

A 30 or 40 yard container needs roughly 60 feet of straight approach and about 23 feet of vertical clearance for the truck's hoist. Some of the older, narrower blocks around downtown Littleton, and some of the steeper foothills driveways further west, have a single tight approach that can rule out the bigger boxes on some sites — worth mentioning on the phone before you assume a size will fit.

Front Range seasons change the math too

A pile of hail-damaged shingles or storm-soaked debris weighs a lot more once it's been sitting out than it looks like it should. Wildfire-season defensible-space work runs the opposite way — thinned trees and cleared brush from a foothills property near Ken Caryl or Conifer is bulky and light, filling a container's volume long before it comes close to the weight allowance.
